4 of the best cream bronzers to help you achieve an effortless sun-kissed glow.
Over the past few months, I have slowly turned my daily makeup routine into a cream product-only zone.
This change has been fuelled by the realisation that cream products just look so much better than powders – not only do they wear better throughout the day, but they also give a natural glow that can rarely be achieved with powder products.
One of the products that took me the longest to make the switch from powder to cream with was bronzers. I think the reason it took me so long was that whenever I thought about using them, I would think of thick and heavy sticks that weren’t the most ideal for everyday wear – I wanted my makeup to look natural and I didn’t think that this could be achieved with cream bronzers. But this was wrong, cream bronzers have now become a staple in my routine as they are light, easy to use and give an effortless skinlike finish.
Recently I have found quite a few really great cream bronzers, all of which look natural and are easy to apply – and cost no more than £20.50.
Glossier Cloudpaint – Dusk
So, although not technically a bronzer, the Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk is a beautiful warm nude shade that blends the lines between blush and bronzer.
It has the warmth and brown hues that make it act perfectly as a bronzer, but also has that slight bit of colour to add a bit of life to your face – it’s perfect.
I use this all over my face, just as I would with a normal bronzer and it looks great. I’m careful to not go too heavy-handed with this, as with my pale skin it can start to look a bit too warm and obvious if I’m not careful.
This is a gel/cream formula, which I almost prefer over the traditional bronzing sticks as it blends out effortlessly, you can build it up as a little or as much as you’d like and it never, ever looks cakey.
Fenty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Sinamon
The Match Stix’s from Rihanna’s Fenty brand are a range of cream products that can be used as blushes, highlights, or bronzers – even eyeshadows, depending on what you feel like.
I really like the shade Sinamon, a cinnamon bronzed shade.
Don’t let the name ‘Shimmer Stick’ put you off too much – yes it has a pearly sheen to it, but it’s so beautiful and catches the light just right to give your skin a glow without looking too sparkly or glittery.
The product that I own is only a travel-sized version that I picked up in a duo from Boots, it contains 2.8g of product, compared to the full-sized 7.1g. It’s slightly dryer than other bronzing sticks that I have used, so I much prefer applying it with my fingers as this warms up the product and makes it easier to blend out – it’s a little too dry to easily blend out with a brush which is normally my preferred method of application.
Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer in Baked
Out of the bunch of products I’m showing today, I think the Milk Matte Bronzer is probably my favourite.
It’s the perfect bronze shade for my skin so I always find myself reaching for it.
You also get a lot of product for the £20.50 you pay for it – a whole 28g. I’ve had it for a few months now and I still haven’t got to the point where I need to wind the product up.
This product is creamy, easy to blend, buildable and feels light on the skin. It’s everything that you would want in a cream bronzer, I have the lighter of 2 shades.
Which, on that note, I hope they bring out more shades very soon because having only 2 shades is quite frankly unacceptable. This is also a common theme among many of theses cream bronzers, it’s rare to find a cream bronzer that has more than 2-3 shades, it’s a sign of laziness and ignorance which really shouldn’t still be an issue we have to talk about in 2020.
The Saem Cream Stick Blusher in Mud Shake
This Cream Stick Blusher comes from a range of cream blushes from K-beauty brand The Saem, there are 8 colours in the range – two bronzers, one highlight and four blushes. Out of the two bronzer shades, I chose Mud Shake (not the most flattering of product names) as it was the warmer option.
The consistency is very similar to the Milk cream bronzers, it’s nice and creamy so can easily be blended out with a brush or your fingers, and it also doesn’t feel thick or cakey once you’ve applied it.
The shade is very similar to the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil powder, with just a bit more warmth to it. It’s very flattering on my skin, and doesn’t make me look like I obviously have a lot of bronzer on – it looks very natural.
One minor issue is that it has a pretty strong smell, like playdough. It’s a bit off-putting when you first open up the product, but as soon as you have it on your skin you can’t smell it at all – it’s just something to note if you are particularly sensitive to the scents of beauty products.
