My favourite products that give volume and life to fine thin hair.

With fine hair, it can be easy to avoid using styling products in the fear that they will weigh down your locks and make them look even more thin and lifeless. But a lot of the time, the act of not using anything can be the cause of lifeless hair.

For a long time, I used to use no products in my hair at all after I got out of the shower, which not only left my hair in pretty bad condition but also meant that my hair always looked completely flat.

Now that I’ve incorporated a few volumising products into my routine, my hair is looking voluminous and healthy. Here are my favourite products for adding volume to thin hair.

Leave-in products for fine thin hair

Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Leave-In Conditioner

As soon as I get out of the shower I spritz a generous amount of the Kristin Ess Leave-In Conditioner through my hair, I love it because it’s so light I don’t have to worry about it weighing down my hair so I can spray as much as I need without having to worry. After using this my hair feels so soft and healthy.

This stuff also smells divine — it’s one of the few products I’ve used where the smell really lingers throughout the day, apparently the scent can be compared to Byredo Mojave Ghost perfume.

Bed Head by TIGI Blow-Out Golden Illuminating Shine Cream

I love my hair to look super shiny, so I like to use some kind of cream in my routine to ensure that it looks as glossy as possible — without looking greasy. I have been using the Bed Head Shine Cream for years, ever since my hairdresser used it on me for my prom.

You can use this on either wet or dry hair, I normally use it when it’s slightly damp to keep my hair smooth and shiny.

Then if my hair starts to get a bit frizzy throughout the day I will talk a small amount of this on dry hair to tame any flyaways and tame the frizz.

Catwalk by Tigi Blow Out Balm

Another product I love for smooth and shiny hair is the Catwalk Blow Out Balm, this doesn’t have the shimmer like the Shine Cream does and, as the name suggests, is a balm rather than a cream which means that it really smoothes out the hair and ensures it stays like that all day.

After using this before blow drying, my hair feels ridiculously soft. You only need 1-2 pumps but it makes a huge difference in how manageable my hair is — and it smells amazing!

Volume sprays for fine thin hair

Catwalk Root Boost Volume Spray for Fine Hair

One of the key products that people with fine hair need is a good root boosting spray, I really love the Catwalk Root Boost.

I use this on wet hair before I blow dry by splitting my hair into small sections, spraying this straight into the roots and then working it into my scalp with my fingers.

This comes out like a white cream when sprayed, which at first seems scary as it feels like you’re using too much product, but even when I do go slightly overboard it never feels noticeable or crunchy once I’ve blow-dried.

It doesn’t leave too much texture in my hair which I like but gives my hair so much volume.

NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Volume Texture Mist

Natural Lab Tokyo Perfect Volume Texture Mist Volumes of Beauty review

NatureLab Tokyo is a really lovely budget haircare brand that Cult Beauty stocks that have a few different ranges to choose from, depending on your hair type — the range I go for is the Perfect Volume range.

I really like the Texture Mist as it’s super fine and can be used either before blowdrying in the same way as you would with the Catwalk Root Boost, or I also use it in dry hair if my hair is looking a bit lacklustre.

Charles Worthington Volume Bounce Texturising Spray

A good texturising spray is the last product you need for voluminous hair all day. I alternate between liking salt sprays to give that extra grit and texture to the hair, and products that are finer and give weightless volume — at the moment I’ve been preferring the latter.

Charles Worthington is an affordable brand at Boots that do some amazing styling products for great prices (their dry shampoo is one of my all-time favourites) and their volumizing spray is no exception.

After a generous spray of this through your hair, you just need to ruffle the product into your hair which will give you a nice amount of additional volume without the salty, gritty texture.
