Three of the best medium-coverage drugstore foundations that prove you don’t need to splurge to get a great product.
Foundation is the product I struggle the most with; some break me out, some don’t last all day, look patchy, and all too often I end up getting the complete wrong shade.
So on the occasions when I do find a foundation that I love, it’s a pretty big deal.
When I think about the foundations that do tick all of the boxes, a lot of the real stand-outs are on the affordable side.
Here are my favourite medium-coverage drugstore foundations.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation
This is an extremely lightweight foundation that feels like nothing on your skin yet gives a solid medium coverage.
This product was made famous by the initial 25,000-person waitlist it acquired when it was launched alongside the Coverage Foundation, and it’s clear to see why people got so excited about it – it’s perfect.
The Serum Foundation has a very runny, watery texture. It’s best when pumped straight onto the skin and buffed in with a brush rather than a sponge that would just soak up the product.
It blends out quickly and easily and gives a nice dewy finish once applied.
Unlike a lot of lightweight foundations, this isn’t a tinted moisturiser hybrid. Don’t expect this to feel like a moisturiser, it’s quite thin and dry.
For people with dry skin, you would need to make sure you moisturised well before using this, just to make sure it doesn’t get patchy or build up on dry patches.
It’s one of those foundations that when I use it, I constantly notice how good my skin looks throughout the day. And the best part of this product – it only costs £5.70.
Maybelline Dream Urban Cover
I heard this product is compared to the cult-favourite IT Cosmetics CC Cream, which piqued my interest. The packaging is very similar, and so is the product inside.
This is another lightweight foundation (can you tell there’s a theme forming here) that will even out your skin tone perfectly and covers up any problem areas like a dream without being thick and cakey.
Like the other foundations I love, I always look for a product that looks natural on the skin – one that doesn’t look too matte, or that looks like I am obviously wearing makeup.
This foundation does just that, it has a natural glow to it, and doesn’t settle into any lines or cling to dry patches.
Revolution PRO Foundation Drops
If I was asked what my favourite foundation was, the answer is the Revolution PRO Foundation Drops 100%. This is something considering this is a £7 foundation that you can pick up in your local Superdrug.
I think at this point I am on my 5th bottle of this and I already have a spare one waiting on the side lines for when my current bottle runs out. It’s like my obsession with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, I may not use them everyday but I like to know that they’re there when I need them.
This is the perfect foundation, light but moisturising with a good medium coverage and looks just like skin. It’s pretty dewy so I can imagine a lot of people wanting to mattify it down with some powder foundation, but for me this isn’t a problem.
What I love most is that it blends out like a dream, I would say that it takes me about 20 seconds (if that) to blend this around my face so it’s the perfect product for mornings when you’re in a rush to get out of the house.
