How you can make your morning routine more sustainable.
It’s super important to make small changes where you can to ensure you have a sustainable morning routine.
Today I’m sharing the ways that I made my routine more environmentally-friendly in 2019, and the changes I will continue to make in 2020.
Up until the past few months, I created a lot of waste without really even acknowledging it.
A lot of this came down to habits I had created out of convenience; using too many single-use plastics, buying from fast-fashion retailers etc.
After the recent climate movements and the push for people to be more environmentally-friendly, I really looked at my own life and found how easy it would be for me to make small changes.
Rather than have this post just focusing on things that I intend to do in the new year, I also want to celebrate what I have done so far.
Giving you my tips and tricks for a sustainable morning routine so that you can leave of an impact on the planet in your everyday life.
Sustainable changes I have already made
- Over the past few months I have only purchased clothes from Depop and charity shops, my only exceptions to this are two pairs of Weekday jeans (which I am fine with because they are good quality jeans that I will wear constantly)
- I’ve cut out cotton pads from my skincare routine, now using muslin cloths to remove my makeup
- Purchased a set of metal straws that I use all of the time so I no longer need plastic straws
- I’ve made an effort to cut down on my meat intake
- I got myself a set of Tupperware and flasks to bring to work with me so I no longer buy over-packaged food from the shops or use non-reusable coffee cups
- I have made a real effort to do more research and educate myself on ways that I can be more sustainable in my everyday life and put them into practice
Things I could improve on to be more sustainable
- I want to switch to more eco-friendly products when it comes to beauty and well being products, this includes things like switching to the Dame tampons, stopping my use of shampoos and body washes from brands like Unilever, finding all-natural alternatives for the products I currently use
- Make the effort to visit local farmers markets and grocery stores that use minimal packaging to reduce the amount of plastic waste that I create
- Put more time into researching the beauty products and brands that I use – do the brands align with my ethos, are they cruelty free/vegan, could I find an all-natural alternative?
- Continue with my efforts of being vegetarian, with the ultimate aim of being completely vegetarian and mostly vegan
One of the main things I plan to focus on is making my whole beauty regime more environmentally-friendly.
It’s important to choose brands and products that are sustainable and care about making products that are kind to you, the planet, and the people that manufacture them.
If you want a good place to start when it comes to ethical and natural beauty products, Naturisimo and Content Beauty are great stores to browse. I have also compiled some of the natural products that I know and love, and some that I am looking to try in the future.
