Rounding up the best brands that I’ve been using all year.
It’s the end of the year! This means a roundup of the best beauty brands of the year.
2019 was a busy year, most of it being consumed by late-night study sessions and essay-writing as I completed the final year of my business degree. This finally paid off when I graduated in July – hooray!
However, because of this, I didn’t really have much time to discover lots of new beauty products.
I did find some great products that I love dearly, but on the whole, I stayed loyal to a select few brands that I know and have enjoyed for years.
Here are my best beauty brands of the year.
Beauty Pie
I would say that Beauty Pie was my favourite brand of 2019, their products are amazing and you can’t argue with their affordable prices.
All of the products that I have tried from them have been extremely comparable, or even better, than similar high-end products that I own.
Out of all the products that I have tried from the brand over 2019, there were two real standouts – the Japanfusion Transforming Cleanser, and the Plantastic Micropeeling Drops.
I have done in-depth reviews on these products on my blog in the past, here, so I will spare you the repetition.
I will say that if you are looking for the perfect cleanser or a treatment that will help those of you with problem skin, you need to look no further.
Glossier
I love everything about Glossier – and from being a loyal reader of Into The Gloss years before the beauty line came to fruition. I feel particularly strongly about them (I even wrote my dissertation about their business model).
Two of my favourite products from the brand for last year were easily the Cloudpaints and the Bubblewrap Eyecream.
During the last half of the year, I got suuper into cream blushes. Out of all the different formulas I tried from different brands, the Cloudpaints were easily my favourite.
They are very light which makes theme easy to blend into the skin, they also have the perfect finish – not too dewy and not too matte, the perfect in between formula.
I have two of the shades, dusk which is a brown-tinted nude that I use like a bronzer to warm up my face, and the shade Beam which is a muted peachy coral.
Bubblewrap has been one of Glossier’s more recent launches which quickly became one of my favourite eye creams.
They got the formula just right with this one, it’s thick enough so that it feels super hydrating under the eyes, but light enough that it sinks right into the skin and doesn’t interfere with the rest of your makeup.
The only thing that could possibly make this eye cream any better would be if they created a version that had a bit of shimmer and a peachy undertone (I’m thinking similar to Origins Ginzing Eye Cream), this would easily make it the best eye cream of all time.
The Ordinary
The budget brands were really working their magic last year, being responsible for basically all of my favourites.
Besides Beauty Pie, The Ordinary was the other key favourite when it comes to skincare products.
I have tried quite a few of their products and I have yet to find one that I really hate.
It does take a bit more effort and research to work out which product/ingredient will work for you – but that also makes sure that you’ll get a product that you love.
My first favourite of theirs has been their Niacinimide and Zinc serum, which I know is a favourite amongst a lot of people.
It’s great for those of you who suffer with blemish-prone skin, I use this most mornings and I really think it is responsible for my clearer skin.
I’ve also been including The Ordinary’s Salicylic Mask which is another product that really targets blemishes, so by using these two together I have noticed a huge difference in my skin.
Other
If I was to pick my top product of 2019 I think it would have to be the Revolution Pro Foundation Drops.
You know it’s a holy grail when you reach for it everyday, and then on the days that you wear something else you wish you had just stuck with the usual.
That’s exactly how I feel about this foundation.
The coverage is perfect, it covers up everything but without looking thick or cakey – it just looks like your skin.
It’s extremely light and the easiest foundation to blend out that I have found.
It’s a little on the dewy size so does require a tiny bit of powder if you find you normally get slightly oily throughout the day, but on the whole I seriously can’t fault this product – plus it’s only £7.
Finally I have picked the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Bronzer, for anyone with pale skin who has to be careful with bronzers that are too dark – this is the bronzer you should be buying.
I use this basically all over myself because it is the perfect shade to warm up my complexion and add a bit of life to my pale skin, but never looks orange or fake.
