The top 5 books to read this month
Today we’re talking about all the books that I want to read this month.
When it came to renaming my blog around a year ago, I chose a name that was a mixture of my two favourite things — beauty and books.
But, as any frequent reader of my blog is probably aware, beauty content greatly outweighs the book content. This is mainly because I find it so hard to talk about books, after years of writing about beauty it seems that I can barely manage to write about anything else!
I want to start making it more of a monthly habit to talk about what I’m reading, or plan to read – to share my love of reading and hopefully give you some inspiration.
So sit back, get your goodreads open and let’s discuss the books that we’re going to be reading in August.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
This is a very well-known, and well-loved fantasy novel from The Kingkiller Chronicles series. It follows a young man who grows into one of the most notorious wizards that ever lived.
I don’t know too much about this, only that it boasts an average of 4.5 stars on goodreads, which is seriously impressive considering this is the average of almost 700,000 reviews.
Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson
This is about a woman who babysits 2 twins who spontaneously combust when they get agitated. It’s certainly unique and a very intriguing idea.
That’s pretty much all that I know about this book, along with the fact that I know a few people that say this is one of their favourite books.
I always see very good reviews of this book on goodreads so I think I’m safe in the thinking that I’m going to enjoy it.
Find Me by André Aciman
I wasn’t planning on reading this after seeing a few less-than-positive reviews, but I love Call Me By Your Name so I was just too intrigued to not pick it up.
The novel mainly follows Elio’s dad who has a chance encounter with a young woman on a train on his way to visit Elio.
I’ve heard very mixed things – some people have said it was a good follow-up novel, but a lot of people have said it was a disappointing sequel. So we’ll see how I feel once I finish reading it.
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
I’m seriously excited about this, and will probably be the first book that I pick up after finishing Dune (my current read). It’s very popular at the moment and I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about this debut novel that’s up for this years’ Man Booker.
This plot centres around a young black woman, Emira. She is seen in a supermarket with the white toddler she babysits and gets accused of kidnapping.
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
Joan Didion is an author that I’ve been wanting to get into for a while. Known for her hard-hitting essays and societal insights, she’s an author that I know that I should have begun reading long ago.
The Year of Magical Thinking was on offer so I took the opportunity and got it for my first Didion read. It looks to be an honest and raw account of the year following her husband’s death.
What books are you loving?
