My favourite glowy skin products. Discover some of the easiest products to use for effortlessly glowing skin in the summer.
Around this time of year (who am I kidding… all-year-round) I love having glowing skin. Powder products are nowhere to be found — it’s an all cream kind of situation.
You may think that creating a glow comes mainly from the makeup products you use, but it’s just as essential to adopt a skincare routine that focuses on hydrating the skin.
The art of perfecting the natural glow is using a combination of glossy skincare and makeup products.
Here are the best glowing skin products that I incorporate into my skincare and makeup routine for a perfect glow.
Skincare
If you want seriously glowing skin in the summer, you need to incorporate glossy products starting at the very beginning of your beauty routine. Choosing products that focus on hydrating and nourishing the skin are the perfect things to start with. We want to look like we’ve drunk 8 glasses of water.
Face masks
I like to use a moisturising mask 1-2 times a week, my favourite is the Glossier Moisturising Moon Mask. This is a thick, creamy mask that’s packed with squalane and hyaluronic acid — 2 of my all-time favourite moisturising ingredients. Instantly after using this mask, my skin feels unbelievably soft and smooth, it’s the perfect thing to keep moisture levels up.
Facial mists
A good face mask is a great treatment for glowing skin, but as a top-up product, I love facial sprays. Not only do they help to freshen up your makeup throughout the day, but also can be used in-between steps in your skincare routine to help lock in the levels of moisture. Again we’re just building up the hydrating skincare products so that we have a great base for when we come to the makeup products. I love the La Roche-Posay Ultra 8 spray as its insanely hydrating but also sinks into the skin super quickly without feeling too wet.
SPF
The final skincare step that I love to add a bit of glow with is SPF. SPF is a non-negotiable step that I do every day without fail, it’s the last step to my skincare routine so it’s the perfect opportunity to add in a bit of glow before putting on my makeup. The Heimish Artless Glow Base is a great glow-giving SPF, not only does it have SPF 50 giving you some serious sun protection all day long, but it’s got a very subtle pink tint and lots of natural-looking shimmer. I love this product because it makes my skin look naturally glossy, but doesn’t look like too over the top.
Makeup
Makeup is the easiest way to fake glowing skin in the summer, I like to make sure that every single step is somehow contributing to an overall glow — starting with foundation.
BB Cream
I don’t like to use anything that’s too thick, I want it to look like skin and be natural. I like to use either a light coverage foundation, or some kind of BB cream. Look for anything that’s marketed towards dry skin, this way you know it’s going to be hydrating and dewy. I’ve been really enjoying the Purito Snail Clearing BB Cream, a dewy base that gives just the right amount of coverage to cover up any areas of redness or discolouration, while still allowing your skin to peek through. It feels super light on the skin and lasts beautifully throughout the day.
Blush
For blush, you can go with any kind of cream blush that you own, but if you want to amp it up that little bit more, I love the Milk Makeup Glow Oil Sticks. These are a hybrid between a highlighter and a blush, you get the pigment and colour of a blush with the added shimmer and gloss of a highlighter. I have the shade Glimmer, which is the perfect natural red flush shade it looks like you’ve sat outside and caught a bit of sun.
Highlighter
Finally comes the product that will tie the entire look together, the highlighter. Any highlighter that you use is going to give you some serious glow, but I’ve always preferred a cream highlight over powder. I find powder highlighters can sometimes cling to dry patches or emphasise any skin texture, whereas something that’s more creamy and glossy just glides over without drawing any attention. I adore the Beauty Pie Triple Luminizer, it contains incredibly fine shimmer that catches the light so beautifully to make you look radiant.
