Is your Instagram feed full of people with bold, fluffy eyebrows? Good news! You can easily recreate this look yourself using my soap brows eyebrow routine.
I am one of the people lucky enough to say that I never fell victim to the over-plucked eyebrows trend.
I always let my naturally dark, bushy eyebrows run wild – barely even picking up a pair of tweezers until I was in college.
This meant that my eyebrows were primed and ready for the bushy brows trend, a trend that revolves around thick, overgrown eyebrows.
Every time I go on Instagram I see feeds full of people with perfectly brushed up brows that look super fluffy and messy.
I tried to replicate this look for myself so many times but couldn’t find any eyebrow gels that could keep my brows in place for more than a few minutes.
This is when I started hearing about Soap Brows. The trend where you use a bar of soap in place of a gel to keep your brows in place.
How to do soap brows
This soap brow tutorial is super quick and simple, all you need to do is:
- Spray a spoolie with facial spray (or just water) until it’s damp
- Take your damp spoolie and brush it through the soap brow product of your choice (keep reading to see what my favourite soap brow products are) so the spoolie is completely covered in product
- Then start brushing the spoolie through your brows, do this in slow upright motions. You want to be pushing your eyebrow hairs up and helping them to stick into place by applying pressure as you brush through with the spoolie
Soap Brows before and after
Can you see the difference!?
On the left you can see my brows just filled in with some powder, the way I used to do my eyebrows. My eyebrows don’t look very natural or full at all.
If you look at the right-hand picture, you can see my brows after using just soap brows. I still get that bold look that you see in the first picture, but without the need for any eyebrow powders or pomades.
I really love the look of soap brows, as you can really see how much more defined each of my brow hairs are, they’re a lot more pushed up and the brow looks a lot fluffier.
Usually, when I do the soap brows trend, I’ll start with applying the soap brows and then use a eyebrow pencil or pomade to draw hair-like strokes where my brow hair is slightly more sparse.
My favorite product to use for this is the Benefit Ka-Brows in 4.5 – this is a brow pomade that’s the perfect match for my brows.
The most important thing for me, and the reason I love the soap brows trend so much, is because it really makes your brows stay in place all day long. I know that once I do my brows in the morning there’s no chance of them moving or falling out of place.
This soap brows tutorial has been a lifesaver in my makeup routine.
What to use for soap brows
When it comes to soap brows, you have 2 options with what to use. You can either use actual soap, which is more affordable. Or you can use makeup products made to create the same look as soap brows, these are slightly more expensive but can often be easier to use and store.
The best soap for soap brows
If you’re just starting out with soap brows, the best soap to use is the original Pears soap. This is the soap I saw everyone using at the start of this trend – and the best thing is that you can buy it for as little as £4 on Amazon.
It’s super easy to use, but you probably will need to also purchase some sort of soap dish to keep it in – or just remember to not throw away the box that it comes in.
The best soap brow products
Now I much prefer soap brow products that aren’t actual soap. Here are some of my favourites in my collection that I use all the time.
Makeup Revolution Soap Brows / £6
This is the product that I used in the images above, and the one that is probably my all-time favourite.
It’s super affordable (only £6) and works so well at keeping my brows in place all day.
It does come with a brush, which I find pretty rubbish so I’d suggest purchasing a pack of spoolies to use with it instead.
Lurrose Soap Brows Kit / £7
This is one of my favourite soap brows kits from Amazon, it’s super affordable and extremely effective at giving your brows a pushed-up and fluffy look.
It also comes with a spoolie to use with the product, so you have everything you need straight away.
This is a great soap brow dupe for the West Barn Co Soap Brows, one of the original soap brows products!
Lottie London Mega Brow / £8.95
This product is fairly new to me but quickly became one of my favorites as it’s a Patrick Ta Brow Wax dupe.
Like the Brow Wax, it comes in 2 shades – a clear one and a brown shade. The clear shade is just the same as your usual soap brows, but the brown shade helps to also add some colour and fulness to your brow.
I personally love the brown shade, it makes doing my brows so easy. When I use it I don’t have to use any kind of pencil or pomade to fill in sparse patches.
NYX The Brow Glue / £6.50
My final option is a product that isn’t actually a soap brow, but is the next best thing.
If you want to have the ease of a brow gel, with the results of soap brows – the NYX Brow Glue is the best product for you.
It’s exactly the same as your usual brow gel, and you’d apply it in the same way. The difference is the texture of the gel, it’s a lot thicker and tackier than a normal gel – this helps to really coat your brows and keep them in place.
I will say that this isn’t as good as my soap brow products, but it’s for sure the next best thing to use!
