I love lip balms, and I’m always on the look out for lip balms that promise to be the best lip balm for dry lips.
  • Reviews of two of the most hydrating lip balms from Nuxe and Laneige. The best lip balms for dry lips.

There are so many lip balms out there – literally hundreds, but the 2 products that are most frequently mentioned when discussing super hydrating lip balms are the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip balm and the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

But which one do I think is better?

Introduction to the hunt for the best lip balm for dry lips

I have intensely dry lips, to the point where I find that I’m constantly applying lip balm throughout the day.

When it comes to choosing my lip balms, it’s always the same kind of criteria:

  1. Something that’s thick and hydrating;
  2. Comfortable on the lips and
  3. Long-lasting

When I’m out and about this usually means I use something like the Dr Paw Paw Tinted Balm, Glossier Balm Dot Com or just usual Carmex.

But when I’m at home, or in the mornings and evenings, I want to use something super-rich, which is where the Laneige and Nuxe products come in. (The reason that I don’t use these products when I’m out is that it’s not very convenient, or hygienic, to keep sticking my fingers in the jar to apply the product.)

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm are two of the thickest products of their kind that I own, and although they are marketed differently. Laneige positioning itself as an overnight mask and Nuxe being a regular day-to-day lip balm.

I think that in reality, they both are promising the exact same thing. They are both sold as being a heavy-duty balm that will give you an intense hit of moisture.

Obviously you don’t need to get both of these products, but which is the best lip balm for dry lips? I’m breaking down some of the pros and cons of both to help you decide for yourself.

Price

These products are basically the exact same price. If you want to be picky, the Nuxe Reve de Miel is cheaper at £11, with the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask being £11.99.

Availability

You can easily order the Laneige Sleeping Mask from Amazon. You can also find it on Korean beauty sites such as YesStyle and StyleVana (both websites that I have ordered from and would recommend)

Buy Laneige on StyleVana

Nuxe Reve de Miel is extremely easy to get your hands on, various online retailers (Look Fantastic, Feel Unique and Walmart) stock it, you can also get it instore in places like M&S, John Lewis etc.

Scent

You can get the Laneige mask in quite a few different scents/flavours, I have the berry one which is pretty subtle and unoffensive. It’s a really light scent that you barely notice at all.

Nuxe has a much stronger scent, but it smells amazing. It smells like citrus fruits and honey, it’s not overpowering and it doesn’t last after you’ve applied the product, but I love it. I much prefer the smell of Nuxe to Laneige.

How does it feel on the lips?

This is when the differences start to become a bit more obvious between the two products.

Laneige is a lot more glossy than Nuxe, it glides onto the lips far easier and feels slightly slippery on the lips.

The Nuxe balm is a much thicker, dryer product that doesn’t glide over lips as easily but really feels like it sinks in a lot more.

It doesn’t have that same glossy feeling as Laneige, which I actually prefer because it feels lighter and less obvious on the lips.

The Laniege Mask is intended for use overnight, but it tends to rub off onto my pillow straight away.

Because of this I probably don’t experience the full benefit of the product. In comparison, when I use the Nuxe balm overnight, it sinks right in and I can still feel it in the morning.

For this reason, the Nuxe Reve de Miel makes my lips feel far more hydrated.

Conclusion

For me, the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm is far superior. For one, it actually feels like it makes a huge difference to my lips, it’s comfortable to wear and lasts a long time.

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is great and I still use it all the time, but I don’t think it’s that great overnight.

I’ll normally use Nuxe overnight and first thing in the morning, and then use Laniege in between – as I’m working from home at the moment I reach for the Lip Sleeping Mask pretty frequently throughout the day.

When I’m looking for intense hydration and my lips are especially dry – Nuxe Reve de Miel is the product to go for.

The Laneige Sleeping Mask is great, and really does hydrate the lips and make them feel super soft, it just isn’t as effective, for me, as Nuxe.
