There are a lot of mixed messages when it comes to eye creams. Are they a necessary product in a skincare routine, or just a glorified moisturizer with a high price tag?
A lot of the eye creams that we’ve tried in the past have felt a bit unnecessary… yes they feel nice and hydrating under the eyes, but they’re no better than what my moisturiser does.
However, since trying the Origins GinZing Eye Cream, we think we may have been swayed and admit that eye creams can be pretty good after all.
What the Origins GinZing Eye Cream claims to be
A refreshing eye cream that instantly helps brighten, visibly diminish the look of dark circles & depuff for a wide-awake look.

Description
This is a lightweight, gel eye cream that has a very subtle shimmer and peach-tone.
The main benefits of this eye cream are that it brightens up the eye and can color-correct the blue/purple tones of dark under-eye circles.
How do you use it?
Eye creams can be used in either your morning or evening skincare routine. However, an eye cream like this is going to be much better for the morning routine as it has the brightening aspect which you probably won’t need right before going to bed.
In the morning, apply your eye cream before applying any of your serums, this gives it time to do its thing rather than just being placed on top of other skincare products.
Who is it targeted towards?
This eye cream is best for younger people whose main skin concern is dark circles and tired-looking eyes.
If you’re a bit older and want an eye cream that is nourishing and has anti-ageing properties, this product may not be as hard-working as you would want. But, if you’re using something a bit thicker in the evening, this would be a great product for the morning routine to brighten your under eyes up.
Ingredients
It’s got quite an extensive ingredients list that can be found on the Origins website.
Some of the ingredients of note include:
- coffee beans
- panax ginseng
- magnolia extracts
- natural optic brighteners
Coffee beans/caffeine, in particular, is an ingredient you’ll find a lot in eye creams, for example from The Inkey List and Q&A.
There isn’t actually much research that suggests that there’s any benefit of caffeine in eye creams and it can also be sensitising, so it may be an ingredient to be wary of if your skin is particularly sensitive.
Price and availability
This eye cream retails for $37 and can be purchased from Sephora or Target.
Texture
This eye cream has a lightweight, gel consistency that makes it perfect for a morning skincare routine.
It’s refreshing yet still just hydrating enough that it smooths the under-eye area and gets rid of any unwanted dry patches.
How the eye cream performs
This eye cream is a great product that’s going to provide instant improvement to dark under-eye circles.
Because of the slight colour-correcting and brightening properties in this product, under eyes always look light and bright after using it. Then, if you go in with some concealer afterwards, your dark circles almost completely disappear.
This would be a good product if you don’t want to use a concealer and a corrector because it looks cakey on you. This eye cream does the colour correction without having to add too much additional product onto your face.
We also like how it’s so refreshing and lightweight, both things that anyone should look for in a morning eye cream.
Also, because it’s so thin, it sits perfectly under makeup and doesn’t affect any of the products you put on top of it.
Although it’s hydrating enough for the Summertime and would be good for people with oily skin, it probably won’t be hydrating enough to use if you have super dry skin—you’d probably need something richer.
Overall this is a solid eye cream and has become a must-have product for the days when you want to look that little bit more awake and bright-eyed in the morning.
