If you’ve been online in the last year or so, you’ve probably been seeing a lot of people twisting up the Pixi On-The-Glow Blushes. These cream blushes are supposed to be more like a tinted balm that gives a hint of natural color.
Ever since I saw this product going around online, I knew that it sounded right up my street. Any kind of blush with a balmy texture and natural finish is something that I’m going to love, and (spoiler alert) I’ve loved these moisture sticks just as much as the hype made me think I would.
Before this, I don’t think I’d tried anything from the Pixi makeup line. Of course, I know the brand for its perfect skin-prep products, like the now iconic glow tonic from makeup artist Petra Strand, but this blush formula was right up my street.
If you’re also thinking about ditching your normal powder blush favorite in favor of this twist-base multi-stick stick, here’s my full review.
First Impressions: A Glowing Start
The Pixi On-The-Glow Blush Stick comes in a sleek, color-coded plastic tube that feels lightweight and travel-friendly. The twist base mechanism is smooth and dispenses just the right amount of product, making it ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. Available in six shades ranging from soft pinks to berry hues, there’s a good chance you’ll find a color that complements your skin tone.
I also like they have now expanded the range outside of just blushes so that people can find a perfect shade in bronzers and highlights that come in the same packaging and formula. I have the shade Rich Glow in the bronzer which gives a beautiful warm, sun-kissed look to my skin. It’s the perfect product and makes for a great multi-use stick that you can just stick in your bag.
In the blushes, I have the shade ‘Fleur’, a beautiful soft pink shade that looks great on fair skin tones. I just apply a little to the apples of the cheeks and blend them out with brushes or beauty blenders for a nourished natural glow.
The formula boasts a unique blend of skin-loving ingredients (like you’d expect from Pixi products) and makeup benefits. Ginseng and aloe vera add a touch of hydration, while fruit extracts offer antioxidant protection in this glow stick. This combination is especially great for those who want a nice addition to their makeup collection that does double duty and can be used in different ways.
Swatches and Application: A Blendable Dream (Mostly)
The first thing you’ll notice when you swatch the Pixi blush is its creamy texture. It glides effortlessly onto the skin, leaving a beautiful, glowy look. The pigmentation is buildable, allowing you to start with a sheer wash of color and gradually intensify it for a more dramatic look.
However, the application experience can vary slightly depending on your skin type. On drier skin, the blush blends like a dream, leaving a seamless, natural flush. Oilier skin types might find the initial application a bit tacky, but blending with a brush or beauty sponge helps to create a more polished finish. It’s all about personal preference (like most beauty products are) and just finding what works best for your skin.
Here’s a tip for a flawless application: apply the blush directly to the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards with your fingertips or a damp beauty sponge. You can also use a small stippling brush for a more precise application. What I like about this product is that you can apply it to bare skin for a hint of natural colour, because it’s so creamy and full of skincare ingredients, it glides on so nicely – great for when I have dull skin and need a little hint of colour.
I will also sometimes put the solid cheek tint on my lips as well as a kind of tinted lip balm, it feels really comfortable and I like having that monochrome look so it works great.
The Wear Test: Glowing Through Thick and Thin (Well, Mostly Thin)
The wear time of the Pixi blush depends on several factors, including your skin type, the climate, and how active you are. On drier skin, the blush can last for a good four to five hours, maintaining its dewy finish throughout the day. However, oilier skin types might find the color fading a bit faster, especially in hot and humid conditions.
Setting the blush with a translucent powder can help extend its wear time, but it can also slightly diminish the dewy effect. Overall, the wear time is decent but not necessarily exceptional.
The Verdict: A Glowing Contender with Caveats
The Pixi On-The-Glow Blush Stick is a solid choice for those who are looking for a convenient, easy-to-use blush that delivers a natural, dewy flush. The buildable formula, creamy texture, and skincare benefits make it a good all-rounder. However, its wear time might not be ideal for oily skin types, and the application can be a bit trickier on oilier complexions.
Here’s a quick recap of the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Convenient, travel-friendly packaging
- Buildable, blendable formula
- Creamy, high quality texture with a dewy finish
- Skincare benefits with ginseng, aloe vera, and fruit extracts
Cons:
- Wear time might not be ideal for oily skin types
- Not a huge shade range
- The application can be a bit tricky on oily skin
The Final Glow
Overall for the final verdict, the Pixi On-The-Glow Blush Stick is a good option for those who prioritize a natural, dewy flush and appreciate the convenience of a stick format. However, if you have oily skin or are looking for a long-lasting blush, you might want to consider other options. Remember, the perfect blush is subjective, and what works for one person might not work for another. So, don’t hesitate to experiment and find the one that makes you feel like your most radiant self!
