I’m sharing the best facial sunscreens for all skin types that are super affordable and will keep your skin protected all summer long.
You should use sunscreen every day, but it’s never more important to use than in the summer when the UV rays are at their highest.
SPF can be a bit of a difficult product to use, if you don’t find one that works for your skin you could be left with a super heavy white-cast or something that feels thick and greasy on your skin.
After testing out so many products, I’ve chosen my top favourite facial sunscreens that are perfect for all skin types and will feel comfortable throughout the whole day – all with no white cast!
Keep reading to find out what I picked as the best facial sunscreens, or navigate using the contents table below!
Tips on applying sunscreen & reapplying
You should be wearing sunscreen every single day – even if it looks cloudy outside, even if you plan to be inside all day etc. Unless you’re going to be in a room with no windows all day, you need to keep your skin protected with SPF.
SPF should always be used at the end of your morning skincare routine, so you use your moisturiser before sunscreen.
This is because as soon as you start mixing your SPF with other products, it may reduce the effectiveness of the sun protection it offers.
The recommended SPF amount that you should use when applying sunscreen is about 1/2 a teaspoon of product to your face, which is equivalent to around 3 finger lengths of product.
This is mainly a guideline as obviously not everyone’s face is the same size, but this is a good rough guide to follow – you want to make sure that you have an even layer over the whole of your face.
You then want to make sure to reapply every 2 hours – and if you feel like you don’t like reapplying SPF because you wear makeup, I have the perfect product for you – keep on reading to find out what it is!
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF50+ Sun Cream / £18
A lot of the SPFs I’m mentioning in this post come from Asian beauty brands, because on the whole I find them so much better. But if you’re looking for a product that performs just as well, but is slightly easier to find in your local drugstore – this is the one.
La Roche-Posay do some really great sun protection creams for dry skin – and all skin types. My favourite is the Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid.
It’s a super lightweight product that sinks into the skin really quickly, leaving no white-cast or greasiness. Because it’s so light it goes on really well underneath makeup.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Sun Protection Face Mist SPF / £14
I’m sure a lot of you are like me and wear makeup most days, which makes reapplying SPF a bit of a pain. But thanks to this product reapplication is completely painless.
This is the mist version of the La Roche-Posay SPF I just mentioned. It’s a fine mist that you can spray over your makeup for added protection and it won’t ruin your makeup.
In fact it will make it look even better!
It’s also anti-shine which makes it great for even oily skin as you won’t have to worry about looking greasy after.
This is an absolute must-have for me – now that I’ve discovered this I reapply my SPF every single day every 2 hours.
Heimish Artless Glow Base SPF 50+ PA+++ / £19
I’ve spoke about this product so many times before on my blog because it’s probably 1 of my top 2 favourite SPFs.
The reason that I love this so much is that alongside being a highly protective SPF, it also has some shimmer to it which makes my skin look so healthy and glowy.
Even if I’m not wearing makeup, this makes my skin look so juicy and illuminated – it’s one of my favourite skincare products for sure.
I’m currently on my second bottle of this product and I will definitely continue to purchase it for a very long time.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ / £10.87
If you’re looking for a light as air, non-greasy SPF that feels like nothing no your skin – this is another great pick.
This sinks into the skin super quickly and leaves no white-cast whatsoever, and it just feels really comfortable to wear underneath makeup.
Sometimes I find that certain sun protection creams just don’t mesh well with makeup, unfortunately these happen to be the ones I’ve tried from the drugstore, but I’ve never had an issue with this product at all.
COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream / £9.43
My next recommendation comes from COSRX, their SPF is perfect if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin as it contains Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera is one of my favourite ingredients for soothing and calming the skin, it’s always my go-to ingredient when I’m breaking out.
I love this product so much because not only does it protect my skin from the sun, but it’s also preventing any irritation.
MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF45 PA+++ / £6.26
This is the best sunscreen for oily skin, because unlike some of the other products that I’ve mentioned, this has a much dryer consistency that doesn’t leave a dewy sheen to the skin as much.
It’s not as hydrating as my other picks, but this means it’s perfect for combination or oily skin. Don’t let the essence name fool you, it’s not thin or watery at all.
I like this SPF a lot on days when I’m not wearing makeup because it gives a skin-like finish and doesn’t leave me looking shiny.
Ambre Solaire Super UV Anti Dark Spots & Anti Pollution Face Fluid / £7
The last product in my roundup of the best facial sunscreens is another super budget option that you can get from the drugtore/highstreet from Ambre Solaire.
Ambre Solaire is probably one of the SPF brands that you used when you were younger – and it wasn’t a good experience. This is what put me off sunscreen, because it was so thick and white.
This new super UV is completely different, it doesn’t leave a white cast and also applies to the skin so effortlessly without feeling thick.
This product from the range, in particular, is made with hyaluronic acid, one of my favourite ingredients for all skin types.

That La Roche-Posay face mist seems like a game changer! I especially like that it doesn’t have too much shine after application – that’s a biggie for me and my oily/combo skin! I am definitely going to try that one out. Do you happen to know if it is cruelty free?

I love LRP for SPF, they’re so good and sit nicely on the skin, my skin is really sensitive to a lot of mineral SPF ingredients but I’m extremely fair so I have to be really careful with my picks x

Such a great post! I love the idea of the La Roche Posay face mist, especially because it is anti-shine! Of course, SPF is so important but I hate when it makes my oily skin look even more obvious, so that one sounds perfect for me! x

I love this!! I’m pretty light, and even though my body can get quite dark, I like to cover my face and pack on the sunscreen to avoid wrinkles & aging as much as possible. Because of this, my face tends to stay fairly light, even during summer, which means I’m kind of always looking for sunscreens that don’t leave whitecast. I need to look into some of these!! xx
