The budget-friendly skincare brand has a range of cleansers, but which CeraVe cleanser is best for your skin type?
A quick overview to let you know which CeraVe cleanser is best for your skin type.
CeraVe is currently one of the most popular affordable brands, they have a relatively small line of products that are all incredibly effective and well-reviewed — but which CeraVe product is the best for your skin type?
The majority of their products are moisturisers and cleansers which, although maybe the simplest products in a routine, are products that a lot of the affordable brands don’t tend to focus on – for example, The Ordinary only have 1 cleanser in their range.
Today we’re going to be focussing on the 3 cleansers that CeraVe offer.
About Cerave’s cleansers
The branding is minimal, and not overly aesthetic – but this is something that can be easily looked over considering how effective they are and the amount of product you get for the price.
CeraVe’s cleansers all cost under £12 for 236ml of cleanser (for the supersize version of The Ordinary’s Squalane cleanser you’re paying £13.95 for only 150ml of product).

Within their product line, CeraVe offers 3 cleansers:
All of these cleansers have been made with a specific skin type in mind.
This doesn’t mean if you have a certain skincare type, you can’t use one of the cleansers. But if you’re looking for your perfect match, CeraVe has made it easy for you to find it.
All of the cleansers I’m talking about today are also non-comedogenic, non-irritating and fragrance-free so no matter how irritable or sensitive your skin is, you know these products don’t have any ingredients that will exacerbate that.
If you have dry skin…
Try the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
My personal favourite of the bunch is the Hydrating Cleanser, it’s perfect as the second step in a double cleansing routine and also as a morning cleanse.
This is perfect for dry skin as, as it says on the tin, it hydrates the skin during a step that can often be stripping and drying.
My skin is quite dry around my jawline and cheeks and there’s nothing I hate more than the feeling of dry and tight skin after using certain cleansers. With this cleanser, you don’t get that feeling at all.
The cleanser is so hydrating because it’s packed with Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, two ingredients that are exceptionally good at keeping the skins’ moisture levels high.
Unlike some moisturising cleansers I’ve used in the past, this is super easy to remove and doesn’t leave a film of product on the face after removal. Your skin will feel perfectly fresh and clean, but insanely hydrated.
If you have acne-prone skin…
Try the CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser
If you suffer from breakouts or have bumps and texture on your skin – this is the cleanser for you. It’s formulated with Salicylic Acid, which is BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) that exfoliates the skin and gets to work at minimising the systemic causes of acne.
This cleanser will lightly exfoliate the skin without scratching the skin like a physical scrub would, but gets into your pores for a deep clean to reduce breakouts, blackheads and whiteheads.
Not only does it contain salicylic acid, but it also has hyaluronic acid, to hydrate the skin and to ensure the cleanser is not too harsh on your skin, and niacinamide which is one of the best skincare ingredients for minimising enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and dullness – I’ve found that niacinamide has been a crucial ingredient in slowly fading my acne scars and redness.
If you have oily skin…
Try the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
A lot of the time I say that foaming cleansers are something that you should really try to avoid. In general, I always follow this rule, I find them really dry and stripping – usually formulated with a lot of alcohol – but there are a few exceptions to the rule, this cleanser being one of them.
The texture to this is noticeably different from the Hydrating Cleanser, it’s a lot more of a gel and feels a lot thinner. It deeply cleans the skin leaving it feeling completely clean after removal. Unlike the Hydrating Cleanser, it doesn’t leave you with that hydrated feeling after, which is the reason why it’s not the perfect cleanser for me – I need all of the hydration I can get. It also doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry, it feels nice and comfortable.
Even though I am notoriously anti-foaming cleansers, this one stands out from the rest as, like the other cleansers from CeraVe, it has Hyaluronic Acid in it which stops the product from stripping your skin too much. This makes it perfect for those who have oily skin who want to keep the oil to a minimum but not completely rid their skin of all moisture.
Which CeraVe cleanser do you think is best for your skin type?
