A makeup routine to help you pull off a bold lip.
If you prefer natural makeup, it can be hard to know how to pull off a bold lip. I’m here today to give you on my tips and tricks on how I do my makeup when I wear the Peripera Ink Airy Velvet Stick in Cinnamon Chai Tea.
My everyday makeup routine is very eye-focused — big bold eyebrows and thick lashes, often with a thick coat of winged eyeliner.
I normally don’t put the same effort into the lips. If I wear anything, it will be some sort of tinted lip balm that is quick to apply and requires no further maintenance.
Since experimenting with my makeup a bit more and picking up one of the PeriPera lipsticks I have come to fully appreciate a bold lip — but this also means having to change the way I do my makeup completely.
Having a bold lip for me means dialling down the rest of my routine to avoid looking too overdone for what I prefer on a daily basis.
Here’s how to pull off a bold lip colour, perfect for an everyday pop of colour.
Fluffy brows
Normally I like to fill my brows in with some kind of pencil or pomade, but when I want all the focus to be on the lips I prefer a messy and fluffy brow look to something precise.
To do this I use the Revolution Soap Brows, which is an affordable and effective alternative to using a bar soap which I found irritating around my eyes. It’s also much more convenient to store in your makeup bag or travel with compared to soap.
A bronzed base
I like to keep the base pretty simple, I’ll get some glow by using my Heimish Artless Glow Base then mixing my Nip and Fab Bronzing Booster into a foundation — currently, I’ve been loving The Ordinary’s Serum Foundation.
Because it’s summer and I’m very pale I like to bronze up as much as I can, Milk’s Matte Bronzer is the best for this.
To add a bit of extra warmth of my face I’ve been using the Beauty Pie blush in Peachy Dreams and then I’ll finish off the base by patting some of Glossier’s Haloscope into the skin with my fingers.
Long lashes and no eyeshadow
Normally I like a bit of eyeshadow and winged eyeliner, but this would be too much for this look.
I’ll put a small amount of Soft Ochre Paint Pot over my lid, just to cover up any discolouration and then use a few coats of the Collection Lash Surge Mascara to get my lashes looking really long and wispy.
Lipstick
I’ve been loving the PeriPera Inky Airy Velvet Lipstick ever since I got it in a StyleVana order a few weeks ago – I’m not one to love matte lipsticks but this one is perfection.
It’s super easy to apply and although it’s matte it doesn’t feel dry whatsoever, it fees like nothing on the lips. I got the shade Cinnamon Chai Tea. This is a burnt orange/red that works perfectly with a warm and bronzey base.
I really like this shade as a warmer alternative to a red lip – a colour that I’ve always thought doesn’t suit me.
